It starts on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the Hindu calendar's sixth month, Bhadrapada (August–September), whereas the Ganesha Visarjan is done on 10th day on Anant Chturdashi.

इस पूजा के महत्‍व

देवगणों में प्रथम पूज्य श्री गणेश अपने भक्तों के संकट हरते हैं। गणपति जी को प्रसन्न करने के लिए उनका पूजन, करने से भी फलदायक लाभ मिलता है। मान्यता है कि व्यक्ति के दुखों का अंत हो जाता है। गणेशजी की मंत्रों जाप व्यक्ति को सर्व सिद्धि प्राप्त कराता है। गणपति जी का पाठसंपूर्ण सामग्री के साथ करना चाहिए। इसमें सुगंध, अक्षत, पुष्प, धूप, दीप व नैवेद्य गणपति जी को जरूर अर्पण करें। साथ ही उन्हें उनकी अतिप्रिय दूर्वा जरूर चढ़ाएं। लाल पुष्पों से इनका पूजन करें। इससे घर और जीवन मंगलमय हो जाता है।

त्योहार की पूजा के लिए घरों में भगवान गणेश की की मूर्ति रखी जाती है। गणेश चतुर्थी का 10 दिवसीय उत्सव, जिसे विनायक चतुर्थी के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, ज्ञान और समृद्धि के देवता, गणेश जी के जन्म से शुरू होता है। वहीं 10वें दिन अनंत चतुर्दशी के दिन गणेश विसर्जन होता है।
