WHY YOU NEED THIS POOJA
Satyanarayan Pooja is considered very holy and hence it is done during special events like child birth, birthdays, marriages, Greh Pravesh or on other happy occasions. People also conduct Satyanarayan Pooja when they are suffering from illness or even incurring losses or when they intend to fulfil their wishes.
Shree Satyanarayan Pooja is the worship dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Narad ji once, asked Lord Vishnu to tell the mantra or the way to end the miseries of the people on the Earth. In response, Lord Vishnu told that worshipping lord Satyanarayan will be the ultimate way of happiness and Moksha in the Kaliyuga.
The Satyanarayan Pooja can be performed on any day for any reason. It is not a Pooja confined to any festivities, but Purnima (full moon day) is considered specifically auspicious for this Pooja.
In this pooja, it is good to invite as many friends, relatives, and neighbours and feed them as many types of fruits as possible. Observe Fast (if possible not compulsory). It is good to decorate the front door with mango leaves.
The Pooja starts with a prayer to Gaṇesha, to remove all obstacles that may occur as a result of incorrectly performing the Pooja.

इस पूजा के महत्व
सत्यनारायण पूजा को विद्वान ब्राह्मण द्वारा ही कराया जाता है। पूजा के दौरान ब्राह्मण द्वारा सुनाई जा रही कथा को श्रद्धापूर्वक और ध्यानपूर्वक सुनना चाहिए।
सत्यनारायण पूजा के पीछे मूल उद्देश्य सत्य की पूजा करना है। इस व्रत में भगवान शालिग्राम का पूजन किया जाता है। इस दिन पूजा करने वाले उपासक को ब्रह्म मुहूर्त में उठकर स्नान आदि से निवृत्त होकर भगवान सत्यनारायण का ध्यान करना चाहिए।
सत्यनारायण पूजा स्कन्दपुराण से संकलित की गई है। सत्य को नारायण के रूप में पूजना ही सत्यनारायण की पूजा है। इसका दूसरा अर्थ यह है कि संसार में एकमात्र नारायण ही सत्य हैं, बाकी सब माया है। भगवान की पूजा कई रूपों में की जाती है, उनमें से उनका सत्यनारायण स्वरूप इस कथा में बताया गया है।
सत्यनारायण के रूप में व्रत-पूजा का अनुष्ठान करने मनुष्य के सभी दु:खों का अंत हो जाता है। इसलिए विवाह के पहले ओर बाद में, आयु रक्षा और सेहत से जुड़ी समस्याओं से राहत पाने के लिए और संतान के जन्म और उसकी सफलताओं पर सत्यनारायण कथा करवाई जाती है।
